The death toll from the collapse of a seven-story building in Istanbul has risen to 14 after three more bodies were recovered, Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu said on Feb. 8.

Speaking to reporters at the site, Soylu said 14 people had been rescued from the debris of the building and rescue work has been ongoing to reach more survivors.

“Those who lost their loved ones in this incident should rest assured that the responsible will be punished,” he said.

He did not provide details on the number of people still trapped under the wreckage.

A 16-year-old boy was saved from the debris of the building on Feb. 8.

Rescue teams earlier saved a 5-year-old girl identified as Havva Tekgöz from the debris of the building.

According to Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya, Tekgöz was rescued under the wreckage on Feb. 7 after nearly 18 hours.

The building, located in Istanbul’s Kartal district, collapsed on Feb. 6 while 30 residents were inside. The cause is not yet known.
